“a priest, a soldier, and a whore… sounds like the opening to a bad joke.”
in a marbled oasis of a city, a courtesan witnesses the murder of the last prince of a powerful, sovereign empire by invaders from the west, carrying on her back the secrets of her people’s power and a map to an ancient city far to the east. Spirited out of the palace by an old, wounded soldier, they turn to a half-blood priest to guide them through the unforgiving desert surrounding their city and to take them to his homeland, where the belly of a dead, buried city may hold the last hope they have of driving the invaders out from their nation.
